Support Services Resources
Virtual support- 8-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday https://www.minnesota.edu/spartan-center
For virtual support- Log into SpartanNet and click on D2L Brightspace (directions for activating star ID and navigating to D2L are attached). Go to your course list (the grouping of nine squares at the top of the page) and click on eTutoring for a list of available tutors who can assist you. I’m also attaching a document that has bookings links that students can just click on to schedule an appointment.
Free online tutoring through www.tutor.com. Subject areas supported include accounting, English, economics, computer science, healthcare, math, writing and more. To access tutor.com, log into your D2L Brightspace account and click on tutor.com in the drop-down menu under Academic Resources. Students have 10 hours per year allocated, but they can request more hours by emailing me if they run out.
Students can also email tutoring@minnesota.edu with what tutoring needs they have and a M State staff person will reach out.
M State Libraries- https://www.minnesota.edu/student-support/libraries. Students are automatically enrolled in the Library Resources course in D2L Brightspace. Log in to SpartanNet and click on D2L. Go to your course list and select Library Resources.
Just a few quick reminders (on behalf of Mstate) for students taking college classes in the high school
Chromebooks- If an online instructor requires respondus lockdown browser- it will not work with a chromebook. You will want to have that student communicate with the instructor right away and possibly have other options lined up if possible.
Textbooks- reminder that per the contract the district is responsible to purchase any required materials for the course. You can find book requirements listed on the class schedule by clicking on the section of the course that your student is registered for. The online bookstore will be open for spring on Monday, December 21. If there are no books listed yet, please keep checking back.
StarID activation- please be sure to work with your students to ensure they activate their StarID before the start of classes. If they took an online class in the fall, they will use the same StarID and password for spring. This is only for newly enrolled students in an online course. I email several reminders to the students to be doing this—but unfortunately, several of their email addresses are no longer used, or are a parents home email address.
What is a StarID? The StarID is a username that replaces many login IDs with one ID, one password, everywhere.
You only need one StarID: you can use the same StarID across Minnesota State to log into many services like email, D2L Brightspace, and more. Change your password in one place — starid.minnstate.edu — and it changes everywhere. For more information, see StarID Help and FAQM State email- email is the main form of communication from M State instructors. Students will need to be able to log in to their email. PLEASE pay special attention to the username once you get to outlook- it requires students to use: StarID@go.minnstate.edu and many students miss this step when trying to access it.
Transfer Planning
How do you know if your M State concurrent courses will transfer after you graduate high school? The majority of M State concurrent credits transfer seamlessly to other colleges and universities, however it is up to the receiving institution to decide which credits transfer and whether those credits meet their degree requirements.
Tools and information for transfer planning:
Minnesota State system - M State is a member of the Minnesota State system. A course that meets a Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) goal area at M State will meet the same goal area at other Minnesota State institutions. Visit the Minnesota State Campuses website to see a list of all 30 colleges, 7 universities and 54 campuses that are part of this system.
Syllabi - Students are strongly encouraged to keep the syllabi from their concurrent courses as a receiving institution may request it if a transfer decision is appealed.
Transferology - This is a free online tool designed to help students explore their college transfer options nation-wide.
MnTransfer - A resource for students, transfer specialists and educators.
Appeal - All colleges and universities have an appeal process, so if a course doesn't transfer, or transfers as an elective, take the next step and submit an appeal. The M State Concurrent Enrollment Program will also help advocate for our students. Email megan.adamczyk@minnesota.edu for assistance.
